Communication on COVID-19

Dear Parents, Tutors and Learners

We hope you are all keeping well during this turbulent time which is impacting us all.

COVID-19, or the Coronavirus, appears to have gained a foothold in South Africa, and the government has declared a national state of disaster. As part of this, several measures have been implemented to protect South Africans and mitigate the spread of the virus. This includes the closure of schools and the prohibition of gatherings of more than 100 people.

As a home-schooling provider, we are fortunate in that we are not directly impacted by these measures. The courier services that we utilise for the delivery of our materials are still operational, and examinations and assessments can still be sent to us by these means. Our office is still running as usual and we are making plans for our office-based staff to work from home if the need arises.

As such, we ask that you please continue working through the curriculum as normal. We will continue to monitor the situation surrounding COVID-19 and should there be any further developments which directly impact the home-schooling model, we will adjust our processes to accommodate for this. Throughout all of this, we will maintain communication with all parents, tutors and learners to ensure that you are updated accordingly.

Your safety and wellbeing are of paramount concern to us, and any changes we make to our processes and systems will be to ensure that you can continue working through the curriculum without your health being jeopardised. Always remember that we are here to help you, and if you have any queries or concerns, we are available to assist.

FET Phase:

All learners (and parents/tutors of learners) in FET Phase still need to complete their SBA Tasks as scheduled and submit these to us via courier by the 30th of March. We recommend the Courier Guy as the most reliable and affordable courier option for this.

Tutor Centres:

To those learners (and parents/tutors of learners) currently receiving tuition through tutor centres, we are aware that a number of these centres have been closed due to COVID-19. As such, you will need to continue working through the curriculum at home. We will be engaging with tutor centres around the country in order to provide them with support, and we plan to assist them in finding solutions to provide tuition remotely through online means. Should a way forward in this regard be finalised, we will send out a communication pertaining to this.

Once again, we would like to express our concern for the safety and wellbeing of our learners, parents and tutors, and we would like to emphasise that should you require any support, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us to provide you with assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this communication, and please take care of yourselves and stay safe during the current situation.

Kind regards

Duncan Park: Academic Head of Clonard Distance Education
