16 March 2021 – Reading for understanding and recreation Gr 4 – 6
R95.00 incl.
Reading extends beyond the ability to recognize and correctly pronounce the sounds of letters, letter-strings and blends and then using this information to recognize whole words. It involves understanding of visual representation of information (graphs, maps, and tables) and it affects a child’s interpretation and understanding of instructions and of course the world.
Reading should not be limited to the need to get through a day comprehensively, but rather should spread to reading text for enjoyment. This reading certainly adds to a child’s understanding of people, reactions and, again, the world as we know it. Reading for entertainment ranges according to the interest of the child where non-fiction is relished over fiction and vice versa.
