Tutor Support Programme Events

The Tutor Support Programme holds events which provide advice and enrichment to tutors (both the ‘parent-tutor’ and the ‘hired-tutor’). These events are shared in a variety of ways which include, videos, LIVE presentations with a guest speaker where applicable (a Q&A session is also accommodated) and tutor community discussions where ideas on teaching and nurturing skills, concerns and solutions specific to the needs of the students are shared.

Members of the Tutor Support Programme have, included in their benefits, access to these events based on the support package that they have signed up for. Non-members of the programme are welcome to attend events which interest them (for a fee) and are encouraged to commit to these events at least one day in advance of the event. Upcoming Events

Our Tutor-Community Discussions encourage the participation of parents and hired- tutors. The purpose of these casual meetings is to share ideas on how best to include activities, or nurture attitudes in children’s daily routines and timetables.

Our Term 2 events begin from the 19th of April and will be available for booking soon. For more information please email tutors@clonard.co.za.

EVENT RESCHEDULED to 18 March 2021 - Fine and Gross Motor Skills and Activities Gr RRR – R

(EVENT RESCHEDULED to 18 March 2021)

Fine motor skills are the ability to move the small muscles in your hands, fingers, and wrists. These muscles have a profound effect on a child’s ability to manipulate objects and make use of their hands, fingers, and wrists daily. These movements must also be coordinated and synchronized with the movement of the child’s eyes.

Gross motor skills involve the ability of the large muscles in the human body to move using the legs, arms, and torso. The coordination and synchronicity of these muscles will result in whole-body movement which affects their ability to balance, walk, run, and play.

Join us in discussing activities that build up these vital skills in children in their early development.

16 March 2021 - Reading for understanding and recreation Gr 4 – 6

Reading extends beyond the ability to recognize and correctly pronounce the sounds of letters, letter-strings and blends and then using this information to recognize whole words. It involves understanding of visual representation of information (graphs, maps, and tables) and it affects a child’s interpretation and understanding of instructions and of course the world.

Reading should not be limited to the need to get through a day comprehensively, but rather should spread to reading text for enjoyment. This reading certainly adds to a child’s understanding of people, reactions and, again, the world as we know it. Reading for entertainment ranges according to the interest of the child where non-fiction is relished over fiction and vice versa.

Join us in discussing ways to promote reading for understanding and enjoyment.
